About Naya
In addition to being a professional Educational Therapist, Naya (formerly known as Nancy) is also a credentialed Social Studies teacher, credentialed school/site administrator, and curriculum consultant with a rich background in schools and global educational programs. Naya trained teachers in the literacy system of Fountas & Pinnell, an Assessment and Leveled Literacy Intervention system and classroom management techniques.
Today, Naya continues to serve as a consultant, providing guidance to both teachers and parents to meet the needs of each student's unique learning styles, academic challenges, and emotional balance. Naya has collaboratively designed comprehensive student programs on study skills, organizational skills, and academic achievement using multiple teaching platforms. She is known for her patience, grit and determination, especially when it comes to student equity and achievement.
Naya is understanding, calm, and committed to the full intellectual and social-emotional development of any student. Naya's success is grounded in her ability to cultivate respectful relationships with each student. Being a parent of two young adults has greatly aided in Naya's deep understanding of the pressures they encounter and the challenges of family dynamics and complicated social situations.
EXPERIENCE
For 30 years Naya has taught Academic Workshops, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Environmental Education. She has worked with students in parochial, public, independent, alternative, and outdoor educational settings. Student ages range from middle and high school to college-age. In addition, Naya has been a professional in Marin County for twenty-three years, working with students, families, administrators and teachers. She is a member of Marin Educators in Private Practice, Association of Educational Therapists, International Dyslexia Association, Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), and is dedicated to ongoing professional development.
Naya's previous experience includes working as a Learning Specialist and as a Director of Academic Support at an independent High School in Marin. She witnessed students who became more academically successful as she supported them on their path to independence, organization, and motivation. Naya served as a resource and provided guidance to help both teachers and parents meet the needs of student's unique learning styles within the classroom and at home. Naya's training includes extensive coursework in differentiated instruction, multi-sensory research-based instruction for dyslexia, and intervention strategies such as The Deeper Learning Cycle and Executive Functioning Success.
